Trip breakdown
Flow
Both riders are harnessed and helmeted, and the crew set you on the line together. Weights are noted, because the heavier rider will usually carry more speed across the middle of the gorge.
You leave the platform at the same moment on a shared count. Unlike the tandem swing there is no freefall, so this is the gentler of the two paired activities and suits people who want the gorge without the drop.
A fast crossing high over the Zambezi with your partner alongside you the whole way. Being able to see someone else at the same height is what makes the scale of the gorge land properly.
Both riders are braked in at the far anchor by the crew and unclipped on the platform, then walked back along the rim to the start. Photographs are taken from the launch side and from the line itself, and are available to buy afterwards.
Before you go
Yes, October is excellent! Water levels are moderate, the spray isn't overwhelming, weather is warm (25-35°C), and Devil's Pool is usually accessible. It's less crowded than peak season and offers good value for money.
September offers excellent conditions: Water flow is reduced enough for clear views, weather is warm and dry, Devil's Pool opens (usually mid-August to January), and it's shoulder season with fewer crowds. Perfect for photography and activities.
December offers a mix: Early December is dry with good visibility, while late December sees increasing rain and spray. Christmas period is busy and expensive. Temperatures are hot (25-35°C). Good for those who don't mind some spray.
June offers cool, dry conditions: Water flow is moderate, temperatures are comfortable (10-25°C) with cool nights, and visibility is good. It's low season with fewer crowds and good hotel rates. Bring warm clothing for evenings.
May offers transitional conditions: Water flow begins to decrease, spray reduces improving visibility, weather is pleasant (15-27°C), and crowds are moderate. A good balance between water volume and viewing conditions.
The Zimbabwe side offers: 75% of the viewpoints, better panoramic views, the main falls viewpoint, Devil's Cataract, Danger Point, and excellent photography spots. The town has more infrastructure, shops, and restaurants. Entrance: $30 for international visitors.
