Trip breakdown
Flow
Bikes and helmets are fitted and adjusted, and the guide sets out the route and the pace. The terrain is mostly flat and the pace is conversational, so a moderate level of fitness is enough.
The ride works through the town centre and out into the residential areas, past the market, the schools and the places people actually use. The guide is a local and the commentary is the point as much as the riding.
The route picks up the paths along the Zambezi above the Falls, with stops at viewpoints over the river. Game does move through this area, so the guide sets the rules on spacing and stopping before you reach it.
Back into town to return the bikes, with recommendations for lunch and for anything you spotted on the way round and want to come back to.
Before you go
Victoria Falls International Airport (VFA) serves the Zimbabwe side and Harry Mwanga Nkumbula International Airport (LVI) serves Livingstone, Zambia. Both have basic facilities including currency exchange, car rentals, and transfers to hotels. VFA has recently been upgraded with improved terminals and amenities.
For domestic flights, arrive 1.5 hours before departure. For international flights, arrive 2-3 hours early. The airports are relatively small but can get busy during peak tourist seasons. Check-in counters typically open 2 hours before flight time.
The best time depends on your priorities: February-May for maximum water flow, September-December for Devil's Pool access and clearer views, or April-June for pleasant weather with moderate water flow. Avoid November if you want clear photos as spray can be heavy.
Yes, October is excellent! Water levels are moderate, the spray isn't overwhelming, weather is warm (25-35°C), and Devil's Pool is usually accessible. It's less crowded than peak season and offers good value for money.
September offers excellent conditions: Water flow is reduced enough for clear views, weather is warm and dry, Devil's Pool opens (usually mid-August to January), and it's shoulder season with fewer crowds. Perfect for photography and activities.
