Best season: CRITICAL: the Kasanka bat migration runs roughly late Oct to mid-Dec, peaking in November. Shoebill viewing at Bangweulu is best May–Jul. The full combination is only really deliverable in Nov–early Dec, so market it accordingly.
Pace and grading: Moderate to demanding. Remote areas, rough roads, basic-to-comfortable accommodation, considerable walking in wet terrain at Bangweulu.

February has maximum water flow: The falls are at their most powerful with incredible spray (the "smoke that thunders"). Views may be obscured by mist, but the experience is dramatic. Temperatures are warm (25-30°C) with occasional rain.

The bridge was built from both sides simultaneously, meeting perfectly in the middle. Construction took 14 months (1904-1905) using steel shipped from England. The arch was assembled on falsework and then dropped into place - a remarkable engineering feat for its time.
Victoria Falls Bridge was completed in 1905 as part of Cecil Rhodes' Cape to Cairo railway vision. It spans 198 meters across the Zambezi Gorge, 128 meters above the river. Designed by Sir Ralph Freeman, it's a steel arch bridge used for rail, road, and foot traffic.
