Trip breakdown
Flow
You are weighed and your weight is marked on your hand, which is how the crew select the right cord. The jump master walks you through the harness, the ankle rig and the two independent attachment points, then explains the one thing that matters: you walk to the edge and you go on their count.
The jump platform sits at the centre of the Victoria Falls Bridge, on the border itself, with Zimbabwe behind you and Zambia ahead. The gorge drops away on both sides and the Zambezi runs 111 metres below. Most people find the walk out harder than the jump.
A head-first dive, roughly four seconds of freefall, then the cord takes the load and you rebound back up the gorge. The rebounds get smaller until you are hanging quietly over the river, which is the part nobody expects to enjoy and almost everybody does.
A crew member is lowered to clip you on and you are winched back up to the bridge deck. Photographs and video are filmed from fixed positions on the bridge and from the jump itself, and are available to buy afterwards. Allow time to steady your legs.
Before you go
Victoria Falls International Airport (VFA) serves the Zimbabwe side and Harry Mwanga Nkumbula International Airport (LVI) serves Livingstone, Zambia. Both have basic facilities including currency exchange, car rentals, and transfers to hotels. VFA has recently been upgraded with improved terminals and amenities.
Zimbabwe side: VFA (Victoria Falls International Airport). Zambia side: LVI (Harry Mwanga Nkumbula International Airport, Livingstone). These codes are used for flight bookings and airport identification.
September offers excellent conditions: Water flow is reduced enough for clear views, weather is warm and dry, Devil's Pool opens (usually mid-August to January), and it's shoulder season with fewer crowds. Perfect for photography and activities.
December offers a mix: Early December is dry with good visibility, while late December sees increasing rain and spray. Christmas period is busy and expensive. Temperatures are hot (25-35°C). Good for those who don't mind some spray.
February has maximum water flow: The falls are at their most powerful with incredible spray (the "smoke that thunders"). Views may be obscured by mist, but the experience is dramatic. Temperatures are warm (25-30°C) with occasional rain.
