Serengeti National Park

The Serengeti is roughly 14,750 square kilometres of short-grass plain, acacia woodland and granite kopjes, and it holds the southern two thirds of the migration ecosystem that continues north into Kenya's Masai Mara. Somewhere over a million wildebeest and several hundred thousand zebra move through it on a loop driven by rainfall. Where they are depends on the season, which is why the part of the Serengeti you sleep in matters more than whether you go.

Park fees are charged per person per 24 hours and paid electronically at the gate, currently USD 70 for a non-resident adult before VAT. Mobile camps follow the herds and are the right answer in migration months; a permanent lodge in Seronera is the safer answer when your dates are fixed and cannot move.
