Why Chobe

Elephant country

Chobe National Park, just across the border in Botswana, is known for the highest elephant density in Africa and is Big Five country. From Victoria Falls it is close enough that you can see it properly in a single day, with time both on the river and on land.

The morning: pickup and the border

Have your passport ready

Pickup is at around 07:20 with a short briefing, then about 55 minutes on the road through Chamabondo and Zambezi National Parks to the Kazungula border, with wildlife possible along the way.

Border formalities follow at around 08:30. You need a valid passport with at least six months' validity and blank pages for stamps. Check the visa rules for your nationality before you travel.

On land and on the water

Game drive, lunch and the river cruise

The game drive starts around 09:00, along the riverfront or inland roads, looking for elephant, hippo, buffalo, lion, giraffe and zebra, with a stop for a snack after an hour and a half to two hours.

Lunch at 12:30 is a buffet at a riverside lodge overlooking the Chobe River. In the afternoon, around 13:30, a river cruise takes you along the water, where animals come down to drink. The order of the drive and the cruise can change on the day, but both are included.

The full-day Chobe safari starts from $180 per person and includes transfers, airport pickup, the game drive, the river cruise, lunch, your guide, park fees and bottled water. Accommodation is not included.

If you have two days, the 2 Day Victoria Falls & Chobe Combo pairs a guided Falls tour on the first day with the Chobe day safari on the second, from $600 per person with accommodation and airport and inter-hotel transfers included. Visa and park fees are paid separately.
