Why the sides feel so different
The Zambezi forms the border between Zimbabwe and Zambia, and Victoria Falls, Mosi-oa-Tunya, the smoke that thunders, falls between them. Most of the width of the Falls faces the Zimbabwean side, which is why the classic panoramic viewpoints are there: a rainforest trail runs opposite the Falls from Devil's Cataract to the Eastern Cataract.
The Zambian side is closer and more physical. The Knife-Edge Bridge puts you face on to the Eastern Cataract with the gorge directly below, and a steep path leads down to the Boiling Pot. One side gives you the panorama, the other gives you the spray in your face, which is why people who have time do both.

Passports, the bridge and visas
The Victoria Falls Bridge, opened in 1905, links the two countries, and the border posts sit at either end. You need your passport for the crossing, and visa fees are your own cost.

How three days covers both sides
The 3-Day Zimbabwe & Zambia Falls Excursion
Day one is arrival, check-in and an afternoon guided tour of the Zimbabwean side, with a stop at the Big Tree, a baobab that has stood for centuries.
Day two crosses into Livingstone for a guided tour of the Zambian side. The rest of the day is open for adventure: Devil's Pool in season, the gorge swing or a tandem zip line over the Batoka Gorge, and a sundowner cruise on the Zambezi before you return to your hotel.
Day three starts with an optional early wildlife experience, such as the Livingstone rhino walk, then checkout, an optional town tour for markets and souvenirs, and the transfer to the airport.

Doing one side at a time
If you only have a morning
If a full excursion does not fit, each side works as a short tour on its own. The guided tour of the Zimbabwean side takes a morning or an afternoon, and the Zambian side tour across the Knife-Edge Bridge starts from $30 per person.
