The rainforest path on the Zimbabwe side runs along the gorge opposite the main falls, with a string of viewpoints from Devil's Cataract to Danger Point. A guided tour adds the history and the geology and tells you which viewpoints are worth the soaking on the day. Park entry is $58 for international visitors, $30 for SADC residents and $7 for locals.

From the air, a helicopter flight shows the full width of the falls and the zigzag gorges below, on a 12 to 13 minute or a 25 minute route. When the spray is at its peak, the air is the only place you see the whole thing clearly.

The rainforest path itself is an easy walk. On the Zambian side, the Boiling Pot trail drops into the gorge to the river below the falls, and the climb back out is a proper workout in the heat. Rafting days also involve a steep walk out of the gorge, so pack shoes with grip. For longer walks, the Matobo Hills are a better bet.

In town, a two-hour walking tour with a licensed local guide (from $40) or a bike tour through the backstreets and river paths (from $61) are easy ways to see more on foot.
