The reason the cruise exists
The cruise runs on the upper Zambezi, upstream of the Falls, where the river is wide and calm. It is sociable rather than strenuous, which makes it one of the best things to do on an arrival evening, because it asks nothing of you.

You are transferred to the jetty and board above the Falls, and the drinks service opens as the boat casts off.
The boat works the channels and island fringes where game comes down to the water. Hippo pods are reliable and usually close, elephant cross between the islands, and crocodile hold the sandbanks, with birdlife on the islands throughout.

The boat then positions for the sunset, which over this stretch of the Zambezi is famous. Snacks are served and the engines come down, so it is quiet enough to hear the hippo. Afterwards it is a slow run back downstream in the last of the light, then the transfer back to your hotel.
