In Mosi-oa-Tunya National Park on the Zambian side, you can track white rhino on foot. Here is how the morning works, from the sunrise game drive to the rhino walk.

Where the walk happens

Mosi-oa-Tunya National Park, Zambia

The rhino walk takes place in Mosi-oa-Tunya National Park, the park beside Livingstone on the Zambian side of the Falls. It combines a guided game drive with a walking safari to track white rhino on foot, in a controlled and safe setting.

The morning, step by step

07:20 and 08:40

The morning starts at 07:20 with a sunrise game drive, when the park is at its most active.

At around 08:40 you set out on foot for the white rhino walk. Getting close to a rhino on foot, with an experienced guide, is a completely different experience from seeing one from a vehicle, and the guides explain the conservation work behind the rhino as you go. Afterwards you head back to the lodge, with the rest of the day free for other activities.

Who it suits

Mobility matters more than fitness

You need good mobility for the walking section, but it is not a long hike. Bring binoculars: they make a real difference on both the drive and the walk.

The white rhino walking safari starts from $150 per person and includes the guided rhino walk, with the game drive as part of the morning. Transfers and tips are not included, so allow for those when you budget.
